Devastated Alun Wyn Jones injured as Lions tour may well be over already amid worrying scenes

The Lions have suffered a potential hammer blow after skipper Alun Wyn Jones was forced from the field just seven minutes into the warm-up game against Japan.

Jones went in over the ball in the opening exchanges at Murrayfield, attempting to win a turnover as the visitors attacked.

He was cleared out of the ruck legally by Japan's James Moore but lay on the turf after the collision.

The 35-year-old, who does not stay down lightly, required medical assessment from the physios and appeared to have a serious issue with his left arm.

Broadcaster Channel 4 have reported that Jones suffered a suspected dislocated shoulder.

He was led from the field, with his arm being supported by medical staff.

A look of devastation was etched across the Welshman's face as he was replaced by Courtney Lawes, suggesting he was all too aware of the seriousness of the situation.

Fellow Welshman Ken Owens took over the captaincy when Jones left the field.

Former Lions captain Sam Warburton said: "It's a huge blow. Alun Wyn never goes down, he's such a tough man. Even if it's only a two-week injury it's a few games so it throws up some questions for the Lions."

Lions attack coach Gregor Townsend added: "Let's hope it's not too bad news for our captain but it's never good to see anyone going off injured like that."

There was a further blow to the Lions as Justin Tipuric was forced to leave the field on 21 minutes with a shoulder injury of his own.
