Devante Cole's Celtic flashpoint reviewed by Mark Halsey as former Premier League referee gives 'absolutely clear' verdict

Former English Premier League referee Mark Halsey believes Devante Cole could face retrospective action for an "absolutely clear" red card.

The Motherwell man appeared to kick Celtic's Ismaila Soro during the 2-1 defeat at Parkhead on Saturday.

With the retrospective action a hot topic after charges for Kemar Roofe and Albian Ajeti, many Hoops fans have called for Cole to be given similar treatment.

And one former English top flight referee is bewildered that the offence could have been missed at the time.

Halsey told MSN: "For me, I think it’s an absolutely clear red card.

"I think the assistant is right there as well.

"Kicking or attempting to kick an opponent is an act of violent conduct and Celtic were absolutely spot on, it was a red card offence for violent conduct.

“It’ll be interesting to see in the coming days what happens with the Motherwell player.”

Ajeti will find out on Tuesday if he is to face a two game ban for alleged simulation against Kilmarnock.

The Swiss international went down under the challenge of Colin Doyle, winning a penalty which Odsonne Edouard converted.

He was issued a fast-track complaint but Celtic have appealed.
