Devante Cole escapes SFA action over Celtic flashpoint as Motherwell man issued no charge for Ismaila Soro 'kick'

Motherwell striker Devante Cole will face no retrospective action for his tussle with Ismaila Soro on Saturday.

The 25-year-old was booked for a challenge on the Celtic midfielder during his side's 2-1 defeat at Parkhead but replays appeared to show he had kicked out at his opponent.

The SFA can retrospectively apply sanctions for violent conduct and, following Albian Ajeti's diving charge, many Hoops supporters called for a charge.

However, the governing body has opted not to issue a fast-track charge, with the original verdict of a yellow card standing.

Former Celtic star Charlie Nicholas has hit out at the SFA process, calling it a lucky dip as he warned both Ajeti and Kemar Roofe will likely be banned.

He said: "I didn't think there was malice from Roofe but he caught Murray Davidson with his mistimed tackle.

"It looked like a typical striker's challenge.

"Roofe didn't go in with intent but if you get it wrong then it is a red card.

"I understand why Rangers are appealing the SFA notice of complaint but I don't think they will get much joy. I just can't see on what basis it could be overturned.

"Ajeti was cited for diving to win a penalty at Kilmarnock.

"I didn't think there was any contact and I expect him to serve a suspension too.

"His Celtic team-mate Scott Brown got away with an elbow and the disciplinary set-up is like a lucky dip every weekend as to what will happen."
