Dev makes a Steam offer I can't refuse: get our whimsical new cooking RPG at a huge discount by downloading our dog survival game for free

A cartoonish wild cat cooks over an open flame with a smile.

I love it when a game developer uses the launch of its new game to bring attention to older games in its catalog, mostly because that usually means I get multiple games at a steep discount. That's exactly what's happening with Timberline Studio's new "cozy culinary adventure" RPG Beastro, and its 2021 dog-sledding survival game, The Red Lantern.

Aside from the Steam bundle's highly tempting price of just $10, Beastro and The Red Lantern are two games that speak to me for very different reasons. Beastro puts you in the paws of a cat named Panko who's in charge of a local eatery and feeding the much braver heroes saving the world from evil monsters beyond the town's walls. I'm just saying, if I had the misfortune of finding myself inside the dangerous world of a fantasy RPG, I would definitely be the anthropomorphic cat in the kitchen.

The Red Lantern, meanwhile, is about dogs, and who doesn't love dogs? Here, you play as a dog-sledding musher leading a team of hounds safely out of the Alaskan wilderness back home. This one's billed as a "narrative" adventure, but there are also survival and roguelite elements. It has a "very positive" Steam rating with almost 900 reviews, suggesting a worthwhile experience for fans of cozy games with a bit of grit.

The Red Lantern is free to keep, down from its usual $25 price tag, until June 18, so if you're into dog-sledding but have a thick distaste for cats and cooking, you can just grab that and be on your merry way. But if both games are your vibe, by far the best deal is to grab them both for $10. In fact, it's cheaper to buy the two games together than it is to buy just Beastro alone for its $15 introductory price, which is still 25% off its full retail price of $20. No matter how you slice it, you're doing good by your wallet if you're interested in either or both of these games and decide to make a purchase before the offers expire.

Or, you can save your money for all of the upcoming indie games on our radar.
