Deuce McAllister, Jahri Evans to announce Saints draft picks

NFL Communications announced that 64 current and former players will represent their teams at the 2019 NFL Draft to announce selections in the second and third rounds. For the New Orleans Saints, that puts former running back Deuce McAllister and retired right guard Jahri Evans in the bullpen. The NFL explained how the announcers were chosen:

Round 2 Draft selections will be announced by previous NFL club first-round picks, while Round 3 will be announced by players who were drafted in later rounds.

One note here: the Saints currently do not possess a third round pick, having traded this year’s solution for quarterback Teddy Bridgewater last season. So Evans will be on standby unless the Saints end up trading into the third round.

That’s a scenario fans should be prepared for. It will be tough for the Saints to trade up into the third round without a fourth round selection, and they’ve traded down just three times in team history — and not at all since 2007. But they’ve expressed a willingness to exchange future assets for current-day picks, most notably trading their 2019 first round picks to move up and get defensive end Marcus Davenport last year. The year before, the Saints shipped out their 2018 second round pick to get running back Alvin Kamara.

So it’s likely Evans will be staying on his toes come draft day, waiting for the opportunity to take the stage and reveal the newest member of the Saints. But for now, it’s all hypothetical.
