Detroit trailer: John Boyega takes centre stage in Kathryn Bigelow riots drama

The official trailer for Kathryn Bigelow’s latest movie Detroit has arrived, giving a glimpse into the horrific string of events that unravelled in Michigan fifty years ago.

Detroit tells the story of the riots which took place in the summer of 1967. The film's screenplay was written by Mark Boal who worked on Bigelow's previous films The Hurt Locker (2009) and Zero Dark Thirty (2012).

The trailer opens with real footage of the riots, before honing in on Star Wars actor John Boyega, whose character can be heard saying: “I’ll sleep when they stop rioting.”

The action shifts to the Algiers Motel, where a gunshot sparks a wave of police brutality.

Also appearing in the trailer is Will Poulter - who starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in The Revenant - and Game of Thrones star Hannah Murray.

Detroit also stars Jack Reynor, John Krasinski, and The Hurt Locker actor Anthony Mackie.

A UK release date is yet to be confirmed.
