Detroit's Christopher Columbus statue vandalised with bloody hatchet on Columbus Day

Someone has vandalized Detroit’s statue of Christopher Columbus.

ABC7 reports that the statue, sitting downtown at Jefferson and Randolph, now features a hatchet with blood pouring down its frame.

While Columbus Day is still observed as a federal holiday in many US states, cities across the nation are ditching the holiday that seemingly endorses the terror Columbus and his crew brought upon Native Americans. (Children sex slaves, smallpox, rape, murder, and genocide of millions of indigenous peoples, to name a few.)

The statue was a gift to the city from “The Italians of Detroit” back in 1910. The statue's plaques read: "great son of Italy" who "discovered America," the Detroit Free Press reported.
