DETROIT _ Some fans got their wish Monday night.
Detroit Pistons center Andre Drummond, the subject of trade speculation, sat the final 20 minutes while Christian Wood received crunch time minutes.
The end result was a 117-110 overtime loss to the New Orleans Pelicans, but the move symbolizes the Pistons' youth movement as they fall more out of the Eastern Conference playoff chase.
Derrick Rose scored 23 points � but was 0-for-2 and committed two turnovers in overtime as the Pistons (14-27) have lost 12 of 14.
Lonzo Ball (17 points, 12 rebounds, nine assists, seven turnovers) scored the first five points of overtime to lead the Pelicans (15-26).
Pistons rookie Sekou Doumbouya scored 16 points on 6-for-9 shooting. He added eight rebounds.
Wood finished with 18 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots, but missed several key shots around the basket.
Rose tied it with a short runner with 30.1 seconds remaining to force overtime with the score tied at 102.
The Pistons forced a Pelicans empty possession and Rose missed a bank shot floater at the regulation buzzer.
Jahlil Okafor scored 25 points for the Pelicans.
Drummond scored 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in 22 minutes.
Okafor outplayed Drummond in the first half, scoring 19 points and grabbing eight rebounds as the Pelicans took a 63-52 lead into halftime.
Drummond was taken out at the 3:29 mark of the third quarter and stayed on the bench for the rest of the game.
The Pelicans were without JJ Redick (hamstring), Derrick Favors (hamstring) and Brandon Ingram (knee). Rookie Zion Williamson (knee) worked out before the game and is getting closer to making his professional debut.
