LANDOVER, Md. _ The Detroit Lions have hit a new low. And there's no telling what comes next.
Dustin Hopkins made the game-winning 39-yard field goal with 16 seconds to play as the Lions lost their fourth straight game, this one to lowly Washington, 19-16, at FedEx Field.
The Lions (3-7-1) committed four turnovers in the loss, including a bad interception by backup quarterback Jeff Driskel with 48 seconds to play, and head into their annual Thanksgiving game next week against the Chicago Bears with jobs perhaps on the line.
The Lions have regressed significantly in Matt Patricia's two seasons as head coach, from a middling playoff contender under Jim Caldwell to a team that's shown little fight and little reason to believe they can beat anyone of consequence.
Washington (2-9) entered Sunday with a rookie quarterback, an interim head coach and the worst offense in the NFL, and scored its most points since a Week 2 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
Washington scored its only touchdown early in the second quarter, when Steven Sims muffed a kickoff, recovered the loose ball and broke a tackle at the 11-yard line before returning it 91 yards to the end zone.
But the dagger came late in the fourth quarter, when rookie Dwayne Haskins led Washington on a 54-yard, game-tying field-goal drive, then followed with a six-play, 33-yard drive to win the game.
Driskel threw his second of three interceptions on third-and-6 with just under a minute to play, when he badly underthrew Marvin Jones.
Washington took over at its own 46-yard line, Haskins ran for 11 yards on second down, then completed a 17-yard pass to Terry McLaurin against Darius Slay on third-and-5 to get in Hopkins' range for the game-winning field goal.

Driskel, making his third start in place of an injured Matthew Stafford, threw his third pick of the game � and fourth in three starts � on the Lions' final offensive play.
Driskel completed 20 of 33 passes for 207 yards and one touchdown, and Bo Scarbrough added a career-high 98 yards rushing on 18 carries in his second start for the Lions, who are now 9-17-1 under Patricia.
Haskins completed 13 of 29 passes for 156 yards for Washington, which was outgained 360 yards to 230 yards.
Hopkins made four field goals.
