Detroit Lions, many other teams pass on MSU DB Justin Layne

Despite early reports that he could be drafted as early as the First Round to the Chiefs, Justin Layne has yet to be drafted as of 8:30pm ET.

There have been seven cornerbacks selected thus far in the 2019 NFL Draft, including Central Michigan product Sean Bunting to the Tampa Bay Buccanneers. It will be interesting to hear and read later on why Layne has fallen. He wasn’t necessarily a lock to be drafted by now, but after Mel Kiper Jr. said he could go in the First Round, it seemed like his stock had risen significantly.

Then, when the Detroit Lions were on the board, it seemed like they might take a chance on the local talent. They certainly are in need of a defensive back, so it seemed possible.

Instead, the Lions drafted Jahlani Tavai, an Inside Linebacker out of Hawaii with their 43rd pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

I’m sure we will find out very soon where Layne is drafted, as there is almost no way he will fall to the Third Round.
