One down, eight to go.
The Detroit Lions agreed to contract terms with fourth-round pick Logan Stenberg on Sunday, his agency, JL Sports, announced.
Stenberg is the first of the Lions' nine draft picks to finalize a contract, though the deal is not yet signed.
Rookie holdouts have become rare in the NFL as the current collective bargaining agreement slots contracts for draft picks. According to Spotrac, Stenberg will have a cap hit of about $795,410 this fall. With a minimum base salary of $610,000, his signing bonus would be about $780,000.
Stenberg was the second of two offensive guards the Lions took in the middle rounds of April's draft. He started 39 games at left guard for Kentucky over the past three seasons, and could compete with third-round pick Jonah Jackson for the starting right guard spot with the Lions.
The Lions return three starters on their offensive line in left tackle Taylor Decker, left guard Joe Dahl and center Frank Ragnow, but will break in a new right side of the line when training camp starts in July.
Stenberg played on the South team at the Senior Bowl in January, when the Lions coached the North team. In college, he had a reputation as one of the roughest players in the SEC.
"He's a nasty guy," Lions general manager Bob Quinn said after the draft. "They ran the ball a ton at Kentucky, so he's a little bit probably a better run blocker right now than pass pro. But this guy's 6-6, 320, long arms, nasty demeanor."
All nine of the Lions' draft picks are taking part in the team's virtual offseason program.
