Determined thieves ram West Lothian shop with car in bid to rob it

Thieves deliberately drove a car into the front of a shop in a failed bid to rob it.

The Continental Spices was targeted by the culprits at its premises at Grange Road in Livingston when a silver Vauxhall Agila was rammed into its shutters.

Detectives are appealing for information following the incident, which took place at around 10pm on Friday, September 3.

The two male suspects were unsuccessful in their attempts and made off from the scene.

Detective Constable Marc Lunn from Livingston CID said: “Extensive enquiries are ongoing to trace the vehicle involved and identify the suspects, and I would appeal to anyone with information to get in touch.

“I would like to speak to anyone who was in the area of Grange Road on the evening of Friday, 3 September, and noticed the suspect vehicle, or anything at all suspicious.

“I would also urge anyone who has seen a silver Vauxhall Agila with damage to the rear, or any garages which may have been approached to do a repair, to please come forward."

The shop's Facebook page also issued an appeal to help police track down the culprits.

The owner of the shop - which sells Arabic food, spices and perfumes, said: "They tried their very best to break open the front door with a crow bar but were unsuccessful, then they attempted to drive the car into our shutters several times.

"We managed to clean all the mess and the shutters were so badly damaged we have had to shut them fully for now.

"Our shop is open as normal, please use the side door for entry."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland through 101, quoting incident number 1202 of Saturday, 4 September, 2021. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
