'Determined' Evangelos Marinakis has formula for success that will work at Nottingham Forest

Evangelos Marinakis' formula for success will ultimately work at Nottingham Forest, says former Reds ace Jermaine Jenas.

The Reds have already made huge progress since Marinakis bought the club from Fawaz Al-Hasawi two years ago.

After finishing a disappointing 17th place in the Championship during his first season as owner, they ended the last campaign in ninth spot.

Marinakis has spent big money in an attempt to transform them into promotion contenders, with Joao Carvalho arriving for a club record £13m.

Jenas believes his former club will take another big step forward this season, backing them for the play-offs - all because of Marinakis' sheer determination to restore the Reds to the Premier League.

"I think the owner is determined to get them up," said Jenas.

"It seems like he's prepared to keep spending and keep bringing players in until he gets it right, which weirdly enough in the Championship isn't a bad formula.

"It's not the greatest. I think what Norwich did is the best type of way and the most pure and organic way of doing it.

"But that takes years of planning to get a crop through like that but I would be more than happy if he keeps spending to do whatever he can to get Forest back challenging to get back into the Premier League again.

"Like I said, the mix that he's got and the players that I know who are there, they are in a good position to do that. I think they'll be there or thereabouts this year."

Forest kicked off the new season with a 2-1 defeat to West Brom at the City Ground in new head coach Sabri Lamouchi's first Championship match in charge, after he replaced Martin O'Neill in the hotseat at the end of June.

"You find out very quickly that you might not be able to play the way you want to play in that division, due to the amount of games, how quickly the games come, the intensity, the style of play of other teams. But that's going to be a lesson for him.

"Players-wise they've got a really good mix of experience and youth at Forest.

"They've spent some money again, brought some players in, they've got goals in players like (Lewis) Grabban and so on.

"I think this year might be the year they end up playing in the play-offs. I do.

"I think there are some very strong teams in the Championship, don't get me wrong.

"But I think they might get it right."

"Obviously the owner knows the manager very well, but the Championship is its own animal," added Jenas, a footie5 ambassador.
