Determined David Martindale makes bold Livingston statement as he roars 'I know for a fact we won't get relegated'

Livingston manager David Martindale has raised eyebrows after claiming "for a fact" that his club will not be relegated this season.

The Lions have struggled in their opening three Premiership fixtures, having suffered losses against Rangers, Aberdeen and most recently Motherwell.

Martindale insists he isn't concerned by the West Lothian side's slow start to the campaign, believing they have struggled simply because of the quality of the opposition they've faced early on.

And he is so convinced his side will stay in the top flight that he believes it's a certainty they won't go down.

He told BBC Sportsound: "If you look at the fixture list, we're playing the top four (from last season) in our first six league games.

" Motherwell and Dundee are winnable, but the other games aren't going to define our season.

"I've no entitlement to beat Motherwell at home. We lost by a goal and against Aberdeen we lost to a goalkeeping error.

"I can see why people are looking at it, Livingston on zero points, but you've got to look at the fixture list.

"We didn't finish the season well last season but again, we were playing the top six. I think people have to take into account where we are as a football club.

"There's people saying we're going to get relegated this year. You've got to put things into perspective.

"I know for a fact we won't get relegated this year. That doesn't mean we're going to win our next six games or lose them.

"It's a marathon, not a sprint and I've got faith in every single player at this club. We'll be OK."

Livingston bolstered their squad earlier today after announcing the signing of former Hibs loanee Stephane Omeonga.

He has joined the Lions on a two-year contract following his release from Italian side Pescara.
