Amateur metal detecting is becoming ever more popular in the UK, with a record of more than 1,300 pieces of treasure discovered in 2019.
We would like to see your best and most intriguing finds. Have you found any historic artefacts? Or have you had nothing but Tizer ring pulls so far?
Please note the importance of legal and responsible practice when metal detecting. Finds of treasure (in England, Wales and Northern Ireland) and treasure trove (in Scotland) must be reported by law. All other finds should be recorded with the British Museum’s Portable Antiquities Scheme (in England) and PAS Cymru (in Wales). Metal detecting for archaeology is not permitted in Northern Ireland, but is permitted in England, Wales and Scotland with permission. You can also read the official guide on searching for archaeological finds during Covid-19 here.
