Detector dog Wilson makes huge discovery at Dublin Port

Detector dog Wilson made two discoveries at Dublin Port this Bank Holiday weekend.

Revenue seized alcohol and cigarettes in Dublin with a total value of over €200,000, thanks to the help of the talented pup.

Over 15,500 litres of various brands of wine were confiscated following the search of a trailer that had arrived into Dublin Port from France.

The smuggled alcohol had an estimated retail value of almost €190,000.

Wilson was a busy dog this weekend as he also assisted Revenue officers with the seizure of over 16,000 cigarettes. The haul had an estimated retail value of €11,400.

The smuggled goods were found in checked baggage of a passenger who travelled from Krakow, Poland.

These seizures are part of Revenue's ongoing operations targeting the shadow economy and smuggling.

Revenue ask if businesses, or members of the public, have any information regarding smuggling, to contact them in confidence on Confidential Phone Number 1800 295 295.
