Detector dog named Scooby helps find almost €400K of cannabis at Dublin Airport

Almost €400,000 worth of drugs were nabbed by Scooby and the gang at Dublin Airport.

The brazen smugglers might have got away with it if it wasn’t for the nose of the appropriately named detector dog.

The 20kg cannabis haul had come in on a flight from Spain and was destined to go on to Carlow.

Unfortunately for the criminals, Scooby was on the case and Revenue made the bust on Tuesday.

A Revenue spokesperson said: “As a result of routine operations and with the assistance of detector dog Scooby, Revenue officers at Dublin Airport seized approximately 20kg of herbal cannabis with an estimated street value of almost €400,000.

"The drugs were concealed in parcels which originated in Spain and were destined for an address in Carlow.

“Investigations are ongoing.”

Meanwhile, a man and two women have been arrested and €100,000 in cash seized after gardai intercepted two vehicles in Dublin during a crackdown on organised crime.

The man, 41, and the two women aged 38 and 29, were arrested on suspicion of involvement in money laundering after the vehicles were targeted on the Naas Road on Tuesday.

Investigating officers carried out a number of follow-up searches in the Dublin area where more cash was recovered making the total amount seized in excess of €100,000 subject to examination.

The trio were taken to Clondalkin, Ballyfermot and Ronanstown Garda stations where they remain detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

Elsewhere, a man in his 30s was arrested after a discovery of €252,000 worth of suspected cocaine and cannabis at a house.

As part of ongoing investigations into the sale and supply of controlled drugs in Kildare, gardai carried out a search of the property in Kildangan after obtaining a warrant on Saturday.
