Detector dog Bailey's sense of smell came to the rescue once again today as drugs worth almost €88k were found in Dublin Mail Centre.

The parcels labelled "art supplies, coffee pods, action figures, toys" were found to contain 4kg of herbal cannabis, 27g of cannabis oil and Butane Honey Oil products.

The parcels detained as part of today’s operation in Dublin Mail Centre were destined for addresses in Dublin, Waterford, Clare, Mayo, Offaly, Donegal and Northern Ireland.

It was the second big find made by Revenue detector dogs named Bailey this week after another sense-able pooch sniffed out drugs in Athlone.

A Revenue spokesman said: "Today (3/3/2021), Revenue officers at Dublin Mail Centre seized over 4 kgs of Herbal Cannabis as well as 27 grams of Cannabis Oil and Butane Honey Oil products.

"The illegal drugs have a combined estimated value of almost €88,200 and were discovered in parcels that originated in the USA, Canada and Spain. The parcels were declared as items such as ‘art supplies’, ‘coffee pods’, ‘action figures’ and ‘toys’ and were destined for various address throughout Ireland.

"Separately, last Monday (1/3/2021), Revenue officers at Athlone Mail Centre seized almost 7kgs of illegal drugs and psychoactive substances including herbal cannabis, cannabis resin, hash cakes, benzodiazepines and cannabis infused ‘jellies’ and ‘chocolates’.

"The illegal drugs have a combined estimated value of over €53,500 and were discovered in packets which originated from the UK. The packets were declared as items such as ‘hair bows’, ‘football memorabilia’ and 'photos’ and were destined for various addresses throughout Ireland.

"The seizures arising from these routine operations were made with the assistance of Revenue detector dogs operating in each mail centre, both named Bailey.

"Investigations are ongoing."
