Detectives thank public for response to alleged Paisley stab attack

Detectives probing a violent stab attack in Paisley have thanked members of the public for their help.

A 39-year-old man was rushed to the Royal Alexandra Hospital after he was a knifed in the town’s Seedhill Road.

He sustained a wound to his torso in the incident, which happened at around 2.40pm on Wednesday, leading to massive police response.

Cops swarmed the area, sealing off a large section of the street to allow specialists forensic cops to scour the it for clues.

Police Scotland’s dog branch were also called in to help with the search efforts.

It is understood a rammy broke out in the street between several people, which left the 39-year-old man seriously injured.

An ambulance crew raced the stricken man to the nearby A&E department for treatment.

Officers investigating the incident, which they are treating as serious assault, urged any witnesses to come forward and have thanked those who already have.

Detective Inspector Ian Ross, from Paisley CID, is in charge of the probe.

He said: “A 39-year-old man sustained a stab wound in an incident in Seedhill Road, Paisley at around 2.40pm on Wednesday.

“He was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital for treatment.”

He added: “I would like to thank members of the public for their assistance so far.

“A number of witnesses to what was a violent crime have already come forward and their information has been very useful.

“We are very grateful to them.

“I would urge anyone who may have saw what happened or have information in relation to it to come forward if they have not already done so.

“I’d also like to thank members of the public for their understanding in relation to the size of the cordon put in place following the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesman said a 56-year-old man had been arrested in connection serious assault allegations and a report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.
