Detectives remain at murder scene after young man stabbed to death

Murder detectives investigating the fatal stabbing of a teenager remain at the scene in Litherland this morning.

Officers are continuing their enquires on Vincent Road today after an 18-year-old man was stabbed to death on Easter Monday.

Paramedics rushed to help the young man after he was attacked at 2.30pm, but he died in hospital a short time later.

The Bank Holiday killing comes a matter of days after 20-year-old Michael Rainsford was gunned down in his kitchen just two streets away on Harrington Road.

Police officers quickly launched a murder investigation and arrested a 17-year-old male on suspicion of the 18-year-old victim's murder on Monday afternoon.

The force confirmed on Tuesday morning the boy was still in custody being questioned.

Officers have not confirmed the name of the victim at this stage.

His next of kin has been made aware and specialist officers are supporting them at this time.

Photos from the scene this morning showed two police cars on Robinson Road and a police cordon stretching to Vincent Road as officers continue their investigation.

Police cars were also pictured just yards away from homes where children had decorated their windows to thank key workers.

At this early stage it is not clear whether this investigation is being linked to the probe into Michael Rainsford's death.

Monday afternoon saw Litherland flooded with armed police for the second time since April 7.

Speaking to the ECHO, local neighbours said they were horrified at the recent violence taking place.

One mother said: “We are terrified to let our children out at this point.

“Young men are being murdered in the street and in their homes, where they should be safe, and we don’t know how long it’ll be before one of our children are caught up in it.”

In a statement, Merseyside Police said on Monady: “Officers have launched a murder investigation after a man was stabbed this afternoon.

“His next of kin has been made aware and specialist officers are supporting them at this time.

“A 17 year old male has been arrested on suspicion of murder and has been taken to custody for questioning.”
