Detectives release images of man they want to speak to after delivery driver slashed with knife in Whalley Range

Detectives have released a picture of a man they want to speak to after a delivery driver was 'viciously' attacked in Whalley Range.

Officers were called to Manley Road at around 9.20pm last night (14 June) to reports of an assault.

A 35-year-old male delivery driver had been slashed across the cheek with a knife, police said.

The offender is understood to have fled the scene.

The victim was taken to hospital and treated for injuries that are not believed to be serious.

Police cordoned off a section of Manley Road, at the junction with Morville Road, last night (Monday) after the incident.

At least three police cars were pictured stationed at the scene with officers manning the cordon.

No arrests have been made and detectives have launched an investigation.

They have released an image of a man wearing a grey and black tracksuit, who they would like to speak to in connection with the incident.

Detective Inspector Chris Maddocks, from GMP's City of Manchester South division, said: "This was a vicious attack on a delivery driver who was doing his job and has understandably been left shaken.

"I would urge other delivery drivers to be cautious but would like to stress that we're carrying out a number of enquiries to trace those responsible and bring them to justice.

"The image isn't the clearest but we're hoping that members of the public may recognise the person in the image from their clothing or having seen them earlier that day.

"Anyone with information or recognises the person in the image is asked to call 0161 856 4973 quoting incident number 3137 of 14/06/2021.

"Information can also be reported online or by using our LiveChat function at www.gmp.police.uk.

"Alternatively, contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111."
