Detectives given more time to quiz man accused of driving into pedestrians

Seven people were seriously injured when a car ploughed into pedestrians outside the Bishop Blaise pub in Derby city centre on Saturday evening.
The incident, which occurred around 9:30 pm on Friar Gate, involved four men and three women aged between 36 and 52, none of whom sustained life-threatening injuries, with three already discharged from hospital.
A 36-year-old man, originally from India and now living in Derby, was arrested seven minutes after the collision on suspicion of attempted murder and other offences.
The suspect remains in police custody, with officers granted an extension until Tuesday evening to continue questioning him; counter-terrorism officers assisted the investigation but the incident is not being treated as terrorism.
Local officials are considering crowd safety measures like bollards, and Friar Gate will be closed to vehicles during evenings over the Easter bank holiday weekend.
