Detectives confirm frenzied knife attack was "targeted" as victim remains in hospital

A frenzied knife attack in a Bootle park is being treated as "targeted" by detectives as police continue to hunt for those responsible.

Emergency services were called to North Park on Sunday afternoon after a 21-year-old man was found with wounds to his chest, abdomen, head, buttocks, legs, hands and arms.

His condition was initially described as "serious but not life threatening" and police confirmed he is now stable in hospital.

A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police confirmed this morning that detectives believe the daylight attack was targeted - and expect to issue a CCTV appeal later today.

The 21-year-old victim was found covered in blood in the park at around 2.30pm after officers received reports of an assault.

Merseyside Police sealed off the entire park for several hours on Sunday night, with forensics officers examining the scene.

A large section of neighbouring Hornby Road was also cordoned off, with neighbours voicing their concern at attack on their doorstep.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police via Twitter (@MerPolCC), by calling 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
