Detectives carry out forensic testing after 'possible human bones' found in landfill site

Police have launched an investigation after the discovery of possible human bones at a landfill site.

A scene is currently in place off Calf Lane in Mossley after officers were called on Saturday morning (October 17).

Detectives are continuing their enquiries at the site to ascertain the circumstances.

The bones are currently being forensically analysed, police said.

The site is near to Saddleworth Cricket Club and Saddleworth Moor, on the border between Mossley and Greenfield.

A spokesperson for GMP said: "Shortly before 10.05am on Saturday 17 October 2020, police were called to reports of possible human bones being found in landfill in an area off Calf Lane, Mossley.

"A scene remains in place and the bones are still being forensically analysed.

"Enquiries are continuing to ascertain the circumstances."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 quoting incident number 999 of 17/10/2020, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
