Detectives call for witnesses to police shooting

Police raided Inflation nightclub in Melbourne after reports a man was carrying a gun.

Detectives from Victoria's Armed Crime Squad are calling for more witnesses to a police shooting at a Melbourne nightclub that left two people with gunshot wounds.

Police raided a swingers party at Inflation nightclub on July 8, after receiving reports of a man carrying a gun.

Victoria Police said a 35-year-old Surf Beach man pointed what officers thought was a firearm at them, and they subsequently shot at him, hitting him in the torso.

A 37-year-old Craigieburn woman who was with the man revived a gunshot wound to the leg.

Both were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission (IBAC) has already launched its own investigations into the shooting.

The nightclub's owner had previously lodged a complaint against police over a separate drug search at the venue.

IBAC said it would investigate "any potential or perceived conflicts of interest" in the police investigation, including as a result of the owner's previous complaint.

Victoria Police has promised to assist IBAC as part of its own investigation, which is being oversighted by the Professional Standards Command.

No-one has been charged in relation to the incident.

Police are asking anyone who was at the premises on the night and is yet to speak to police to come forward.
