A man has been seriously injured in a hit and run in north Manchester.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses following the crash in Newton Heath on Wednesday.

Police say a 30-year-old man is being treated in hospital for 'serious, but not life-threatening injuries' after being run over on Scotland Hall Road at about 5.40pm.

The car, believed to be a grey or silver hatchback, failed to stop at the scene and an investigation is underway.

No arrests have been made.

Following the crash a large police cordon was put in place and a number of roads were closed.

Police are now appealing for witnesses or anyone with footage from around the area at the time to come forward.

Det Insp Louise Edwards said: "This is a nasty collision which has left a man with serious injuries. Our thoughts are with his and his loved ones as he receives treatment in hospital.

"An investigation is underway and we are appealing for the public to come forward with any information that may assist us."

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 0161 856 61146 quoting incident number 2469 of 31/03/2021 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
