Detectives appeal for witnesses after knifeman threatens shop worker in 'terrifying' raid

Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a 'terrifying' raid on a shop in Middleton.

A knifeman made off with a quantity of money after threatening a staff member at the shop inside Hebers Post Office at around 12.20pm on Tuesday.

No-one was injured, although police say the staff member was left 'understandably shaken'.

The robber is described as wearing a mask with a blue coat and hat.

No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.

Det Sgt Andrew Dixon said: "This was a terrifying incident for all involved, and has left the staff member feeling understandably frightened.

"This incident happened in broad daylight and I am hopeful that there are a number of witnesses who were in the area at the time and may have seen something suspicious."

When contacted by the Manchester Evening News a member of staff at the Post Office confirmed the robbery had taken place but declined to comment further .

Anyone with information should contact police on 0161 856 8716 or at www.gmp.police.uk, quoting incident number 1174 of 11/05/21 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
