Details on new Dolphins guard Chris Reed’s contract

One of a select few additions made by the Miami Dolphins this off-season, offensive guard Chris Reed is coming to Miami with the intention of claiming a starting role on the team. And, based on the contract details acquired by ESPN’s Cameron Wolfe, there’s a reasonable chance to assume he gets a shot.

The Dolphins are paying Reed just over $1.5M in 2019, the first season of a two-year deal with the team. Reed’s second year is a team-option, so the Dolphins are free to part ways with Reed following the 2019 season should his play not warrant a continued relationship.

With so many holes to fill up front, it’s hard to imagine that the Dolphins will be able to haul in enough fresh bodies to push Reed off a fringe starting role.

Now the pressure falls on Reed to deliver and ensure he’s worth keeping in house for that team-option season in 2020. The Dolphins’ offensive line will look drastically different in 2019, so look for the second half of the season to be a true barometer on who is a long-term fit and who needs to be shown the door.
