Details on Jurgen Klopp's plans for 'private meeting' with Timo Werner emerge

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp wants to meet with Timo Werner before accelerating his plans to sign the RB Leipzig forward.

Klopp is a long-time admirer of the Germany international, who is keen to take the next step in his career and sign for a Champions League-competing team.

Werner is also a work in progress, which appeals to the Liverpool boss, and is available for cheaper than other players of his ilk; Jadon Sancho, Kylian Mbappe.

According to Sport Bild, Klopp wants to meet with Werner for a private chat to get to know him better and convince him of his vision.

The report states that this meeting would have likely already taken place had it not been for the coronavirus pandemic grinding the world to a halt.

Bayern Munich are also keen in signing the forward, but like Liverpool are yet to make their interest in the German public.

Werner spoke out about Liverpool's interest in him after RB Leipzig's Champions League win over Tottenham in February.

"I know that Liverpool is the best team at the moment in the world and when you are linked with that team it makes me very proud," Werner told the press.

"It's a pleasure but I know that Liverpool play a lot of good players and I have to improve myself and I need to learn many more things to get to that level and to play there."
