Details on Bears ILB Danny Trevathan’s extension revealed

The Chicago Bears took care of their own business prior to free agency opening on Thursday evening as they agreed to a contract extension with impending free agent inside linebacker Danny Trevathan that will keep him in Chicago through 2022.

The deal was first reported by NFL Insider Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, who now has new information on the financial details.

According to Rapoport, Trevathan’s deal is $21.75 million in base value, with a maximum value of $24 million with incentives. Trevathan also receives $14 million in guaranteed money.

The deal means while the Bears retain one of their core leaders on an elite defense, they will likely lose out on free-agent inside linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski, who is expected to earn a major pay raise following a breakout 2019 season.

Trevathan played in nine games last season, registering 70 tackles, one sack and one forced fumble. His season was cut short when he suffered a significant arm injury in Week 10 against the Detroit Lions.

The former Denver Bronco initially signed with the Bears in 2016 on a four-year, $28 million dollar deal with $15 million in guaranteed money.
