Details of £90m Gareth Bale offer from Premier League club emerge amid Tottenham transfer links

Real Madrid turned down a €100m offer last summer from an unnamed Premier League club for former Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale, Ramon Calderon has claimed.

Bale’s future at the Santiago Bernabeu has been uncertain for some time now, and in his latest interview, he hit out at Madrid for making it “very difficult” for him to leave the club.

The 31-year-old moved to Real back in the summer of 2013 - and has won two La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey, one Spanish Super Cup, four Champions Leagues, two UEFA Super Cups and three FIFA Club World Cups.

The Wales international played 146 times in the Premier League for Spurs - over a six-year period at White Hart Lane - scoring 42 times and has been frequently linked with a return to North London.

Calderon, the former president of the 13-time Champions League winners, has claimed Madrid turned down a big-money offer from a Premier League side for Bale’s services last summer.

The former Real Madrid president told talkSPORT, via the Daily Mirror : “I know in the last day of the transfer window last year, there was an offer from the Premier League.

“They offered €100m and Real Madrid turned down that offer because they thought Bale would be a player in their side.

“I’m not allowed to say the name, though I do know the name of the club. I think at the end there was a disagreement as Madrid decided not to sell the player, because they thought he was a player who could be used and be in the starting line-up.”

Manchester United have been linked with Bale in the past, and there have even been rumours of a possible reunion in north London for the former Spurs star.
