Details emerge about Boris Johnson and Carrie Symonds 'secret wedding' at Westminster Cathedral

Boris Johnson has secretly married fiancee Carrie Symonds, according to reports.

Downing Street refused to comment following reports the pair had tied the knot at Westminster Cathedral.

The Mail on Sunday said the pair exchanged vows in front of a handful of close friends and family.

Mr Johnson, 56 and Ms Symonds, 33, announced their engagement - together with the news that they were expecting their first child - in February last year.

This is Mr Johnson's third marriage, having finalised his divorce from his second wife Marina Wheeler in 2020.

Due to Covid regulations put in place by the government, just 30 guests are allowed to attend weddings, although the couple has reportedly sent out invitations for a "celebration" on June 30, reports the Mirror.

A guest told the Mail on Sunday: "You are not barking up the wrong tree. The couple will be making an announcement shortly."

It is the first time since 1822 that a Prime Minister has married while in office - with Lord Liverpool the last to walk down the aisle while leading the country.

Northern Ireland's First Minister Arlene Foster tweeted: "Huge congratulations to Boris Johnson & Carrie Symonds on your wedding today."

The occasion comes at the end of a troubling week for the PM, with former aide Dominic Cummings making a series of explosive allegations about his handling of the Covid crisis.
