Destiny Church protest ride causes disruption in Auckland CBD

Destiny Church leader Brian Tamaki has led a convoy of hundreds of motorbikes from Manukau along the Southern Motorway to Queen St in a protest for "freedom and rights".

The hundreds of motorbikes stopped on the busy central Auckland street.

The convoy ended in Aotea Square, where Tamaki has addressed the crowd with a speech entitled "Let's Get NZ Back".

Tamaki said the Government has taken away New Zealanders' freedoms.

"Our Government wants to kill our babies," Tamaki said.

"We need new politicians."

Tamaki said his ancestors didn't die for this "socialist government".

Leader of the Vision NZ Party and Tamaki's wife Hannah Tamaki told the crowd of hundreds that people were being forced into immunisation.

People of faith and Māori were discriminated against in New Zealand, she said.

Hannah Tamaki said she felt like Man Up, a Destiny Church programme, had been excluded from New Zealand prisons.

She raised two fingers to symbolise the victory symbol, for the Vision Party.

The protest finished with a haka.

Destiny Church representative Jenny Marshall earlier said they expected thousands of people.

Marshall said the Mongrel Mob was also present.

Police Area Commander Inspector Gary Davey said: "Police are aware of a planned protest on Queen St in Auckland today, and as with any such activity will respond appropriately to any issues that arise.

"The role of police is to ensure the safety of all and uphold the law, while recognising the lawful right to protest."
