Bungie announced that the upcoming June update is the last live-service content update for Destiny 2. Titled Monument of Triumph, the update features revamped Director, new abilities, Sparrow Racing League (SRL), and more.
In a blog post on May 21, Bungie revealed Monument of Triumph (previously titled Shadow and Order) and that it’s the final content update for Destiny 2. The update releases on June 9 and is free for all players. “As our focus turns towards a new beginning for Bungie, we will begin work incubating our next games,” Bungie wrote. The developer added that while Monument of Triumph is the last update, Destiny 2 will remain playable, just as the original Destiny.
The June update features multiple additions, including many that we have been asking for for a long time. An overhauled Director brings back the feeling of Destiny pre-The Edge of Fate, and includes the latest destinations, such as Kepler and Lawless Frontier. Some destinations now feature Distortions, a new challenge when exploring planetside.
There are small story beats and easter eggs to leave the story and characters in interesting places. Pantheon returns as a permanent addition, and while the full list of bosses hasn’t been revealed, it seems to feature encounters from the Leviathan.
As promised, all raid and dungeon activities have tiered loot and are up to modern standards. On top of that, destination and Gambit loot have also been brought up. Exotic armor pieces now have Tier 5 stats, but some are also receiving reworks and catalysts.
On the sandbox side, Bungie revealed new Aspects for Solar Hunter, Void Warlock, and Solar Titan. A long-overdue new melee ability for Void Hunter. A new Stasis and Strand grenade for all classes and a few class-specific abilities.
Last but not least, the Sparrow Racing League (SRL) finally returns. It’s a permanent addition to Destiny 2, with dedicated weapon and armor rewards. There are also numerous cosmetics for you to earn, including horns.
While the content update seems like all we’ve ever wanted, it’s still the final update and the end of an era. Destiny has been through some rough times since the release of The Edge of Fate, and even though there is no news regarding possible Destiny 3, this seems to be the perfect time to bid farewell to the game.
There are more additions, including new PvP modes, Portal activity changes, and more. Bungie will reveal more details in multiple blog posts as we get close to the launch of the final update on June 9.
