Alright, I seem to have been infected by an idea I just can’t shake, like someone humming Savathun’s viral tune in my ear.
With news that Bungie is working on a PvP multiplayer game, one that is “character-based,” I can’t shake the idea of a potential hero shooter (Overwatch, Valorant, Apex) set in the Destiny universe. Bungie has previously said they want to expand the universe of Destiny, and while that may be traditional multimedia paths like TV or film, it could also mean…more games.
Hero shooters are defined by iconic heroes that come with specific character kits. In Overwatch, that also includes a signature weapon or two, while in others like Apex or Valorant, the arsenal is more diverse.
A lot of games struggle to create stand-out characters from scratch, though many of these games have taken years to build up a roster full of newly recognizable leads. But Destiny? Destiny has already been doing that hard work for almost seven years now.
Not only does Destiny have a built-in stable of heroes and villains they could use in a game like this, but almost all already have iconic weapons and potential themed character kits for different roles they could play. Call this whatever you want, “Legends of Destiny,” but I wanted to explore what comes to mind when I picture this, so I came up with, uh, a lot of condensed ideas about which characters a game like this would feature, and what abilities/weapons they’d use. Enjoy:
