Destination country pub an hour's drive from Bristol named AA Pub of the Year

A country pub located a little over an hour away from Bristol has been named Pub of the Year by the AA.

While there were no wins for Bristol, Pub of the Year was awarded to The Three Daggers in Edington, Wiltshire, an hour's drive from Bristol.

When searching for the winner the AA's inspectors looked for a pub which combined 'a convivial atmosphere, well-kept beers and ciders, excellent food, and of course, a warm welcome from the friendly and efficient hosts and their staff'.

About The Three Daggers

Since The Three Daggers launched in the heart of Edington in 2010, it has grown to become the hub of the quaint village and attracts people from further afield.

As well as being an award-winning pub loved for its cosy atmosphere and first-rate food, it is also home to its own microbrewery, farm shop, outside catering and luxury B&B accommodation.

More recently it also added a spa to its offering and had its licence approved to hold weddings in the brewery.

The pub’s menu boasts hearty, country food with nearly all ingredients sourced from its own farm in the village, while the brewery produces a selection of award winning ales available at the bar.

What the AA says about the pub:

The AA says the pub has 'plenty to offer locals and destination diners' with 'interesting menus'.

According to the AA: "Opened as the Paulet Arms in 1750 by Harry Paulet, the Lord of Edington Manor, locals quickly christened it the Three Daggers after the family's coat of arms.

"It’s now a pub with its own microbrewery complete with viewing gallery, farm and farm shop.

"The Three Daggers has plenty to offer locals and destination diners. Bare tables, mismatched wooden chairs, exposed brick and heritage colours add to the informal country pub feel, as does the seasonal modern cooking.

"Stylishly appointed to offer luxurious standards of quality and comfort throughout, The Three Daggers combines traditional hospitality with contemporary furnishings and decor.

"The interesting menus might include Downland’s black pudding Scotch egg, braised haricot beans and tomato sauce; lamb and rosemary pie; and dry-aged 28-day steaks from Stokes Marsh Farm."

The AA Hospitality Awards are seen as one of the industry's most prestigious events, recognising and rewarding the finest hotels and restaurants in the UK.

The 2019 awards were held at London's Grosvenor House on September 23 and hosted by BBC presenter Kate Silverton.

The Three Daggers is located at 47 Westbury Road, Edington, Westbury BA13 4PG. Its phone number is 01380 830940. More information can be found on its website.
