Who is Amaury Guichon?

Amaury Guichon is a French-Swiss pastry chef, known as The Chocolate Guy on TikTok. Guichon has crafted the wildest chocolate creations, from a bell (that actually rings) to a kangaroo with a joey inside.

You might’ve seen Guichon on MasterChef Australia and Dessert Masters, teaching us Aussies how to take our chocolate to the next level.

Now, he’s finally letting us taste his creations, so let’s dig in, shall we?

@amauryguichon Chocolate Koala! 🐨 I wish you all a Happy New Year!! 🎉 I cannot wait to work on the second season of Dessert Masters! #amauryguichon #chocolate ♬ I Want Candy – Bow Wow Wow

What did Amaury Guichon create for Sydney?

Guichon wanted to create an easier way to eat a tart, because let’s be honest, most fall apart as soon as you bite into them. A worthwhile mess, but a mess just the same.

Enter stage right: Guichon’s Cocoa Èventail (AKA a chocolate taco). He really is Willy Wonka.

“The goal is for your taste buds to read everything that chocolate can express. So, I hope I did it right. I’ll let you be the judge of it,” Guichon told PTV at the Chocolate By Amaury Guichon event.

And judge it (more like inhale it), I did.

The chocolate cream?? Balanced by the crunch of the taco shell?? 9/10 chocolate stars.

When and where can I bite into the Cocoa Èventail in Sydney?

You can bite into Guichon’s Cocoa Èventail at the ground floor of 20 Martin Place. The window will have AMEX PRESENTS, CHOCOLATE, BY AMAURY GUICHON, in big letters so you can’t miss it (you’ve gone too far if you wind up at the office). I definitely didn’t do that. That would be silly.

The chocolate café will open today, May 8, from 10am until May 10, so get in quick! Especially if you have an American Express Card, as the first 100 AMEX members will get a free dessert (!!) Otherwise, you can snag one for $15.

Yes, this is your excuse for a sweet treat.

Don’t mind if I do (ignore the nails, a sweet treat was more important). Credit: Amuary.

Asking Amaury Guichon the important questions

I asked Amaury Guichon the questions you guys are dying to know.

We’re besties now. Credit: Emily Sturgess.

PEDESTRIAN.TV: Who would win, Ratatouille or a koala?

Guichon: Ratatouille.

Would you ever make Vegemite chocolate?

No. Although it’s funny because I’m also Swiss, and we have something very similar to Vegemite called Cenovis.

It’s your first time in Sydney. What is better, the Harbour Bridge or the Eiffel Tower?

I cannot turn on my people, the Eiffel Tower.

What can Aussies learn from the French?

French people are very cross, very arrogant. So, I’m gonna say we have a lot in common.

No, in all fairness, we need to teach you French.

Australian coffee or French coffee?

Italian coffee.

Okay, how about Aussie coffee vs American coffee?

You win there.

What’s next for you?

Sleep.

Give an elevator pitch for the Cocoa Èventailat

It’s a combination of everything that makes chocolate so good.

@verorocher97 Pinch me!!! Is this a dream?! Everytime he posted a new video, my jaw dropped, completely wowwed and then I saw him in person? 😭 He's really nice and lovely. We chatted a little bit about pastry and I also asked some advice too (I will share with you guys tomorrow). And oh you might be wondering how's that chocolate taco taste? It's 10/10 excecution, NOT TOO SWEET, decadent, and felt like I just took a bite of Hermes chocolate. So luxuriouss ✨ As a pastry chef, I truly appreciate the little details that go into a dessert like this—there were at least 10 components in it! Twelve chefs striving for excellence, all to give us that perfect bite. So much thought, heart, and soul poured into this. Pastry is truly an art 🧑🏻‍🍳 Big thank you for @amexau @deliciousaus for organising and inviting me, making my dream come true! Now, they're running short pop up from 8-10 May 2025 at 20 Martin Place from 10 am. A special Amaury Guichon pop-up store is giving guests the chance to grab one of the chocolatier’s masterpieces for just $15 (WHAT?? Seriously? I know I knowww). Even better—each day, the first 100 American Express Card Members through the doors between 10 and 11am will receive their Amaury Guichon chocolate creation for free. DON'T MISS OUTTTTTT 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 #amexdeliciousmonthout #invite ♬ original sound – Veronica Indrawan

The Amaury Guichon pop-up store will open from 10am, where you can buy a Cocoa Èventail for $15.
