The recent shooting in Dallas could potentially further divide the country. While details are still sparse, both sides are looking to point the finger and while the victims of the shooter were all supposedly ICE detainees, the bullets had engravings on them containing anti-ICE messages.
The attack is currently being investigated as an act of “targeted violence” according to Sky News. The shooting occurred in Dallas earlier today with conflicting reports suggesting that at least two people had been killed and another having been critically injured. The unidentified gunman also died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The shooter was positioned in a building adjacent to the ICE office and opened fire around 6:40 this morning as the victims were being led into the building to be processed and deported.
The bullet engravings expressed messages against ICE
Despite the victims apparently being detainees, the bullets themselves suggest something else entirely. Anti-ICE messages were found on the casings retrieved at the scene according to numerous outlets. According to FBI director, Kash Patel, the phrase “anti ICE” was seen on one of the unspent shell casings only serving to muddy the waters regarding the shooter’s apparent motivations.
Patel added that an initial review of the evidence suggests an “ideological motive behind this attack.” Dallas FBI Special Agent Joseph Rothrock also added that “There will be no resource not utilized to bring all those individuals who are responsible to justice and to hold them accountable.”
Something doesn’t add up
Online people expressed skepticism over the findings “So the FBI is saying they found rounds near the shooter that had anti-ICE messages… In a shooting where the only victims are detainees.” One observant individual wrote on X.

In a shooting where the only victims are detainees.
Interesting. Very interesting.https://t.co/8EACDdulwo
However, others suggested that the detainees were simply caught in the crossfire, “The shooter shot at the ICE building and a Federal law enforcement van,” wrote one, “He did not target the detainees they were passengers in the van.”
Theories about the shooting and conspiratorial angles suggesting government cover-up were quick to spread on platforms such as X. Perhaps it’s the recent shooting of Charlie Kirk and the response to that that has got people on edge. Kirk’s death was like a powder keg as the tense political situation that has taken over the U.S. finally spilled over into political violence.
Now both Democrats and Republicans seek to paint the other side as violent and horrific shootings such as this will only add fuel to the fire. The engravings on those bullets could well be used by Trump to justify further demonizing his enemies, (whom he’s admitted to hating), which would only breed more violence. Whatever the case, we can’t know the shooter’s motivations for certain until more details emerge.
