Despite questionable injury report status, Bears to start Mitchell Trubisky vs. Saints

The New Orleans Saints still won’t have starting quarterback Drew Brees while he continues to rehab his injured thumb, and Teddy Bridgewater will continue to fill in and hope to improve to 5-0 against the Chicago Bears. The Bears listed their own starting passer as questionable for Sunday’s game on the injury report; Mitchell Trubisky has missed two games after dislocating his left shoulder, with former Saints backup Chase Daniel replacing him.

However, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported early Sunday morning that the Bears will give Trubisky the starting nod. Trubisky was able to practice on both Thursday and Friday, giving team medical staff and coaches confidence that he’ll be able to reenter the lineup. So Chicago will have their starter leading the huddle, while the Saints will continue to rally around Bridgewater.

Trubisky hasn’t lived up to his billing as the second overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, having gone 18-13 as a starter (including the playoffs) while completing 63.5% of his passes and throwing 35 touchdowns against 21 interceptions (he’s also committed 16 fumbles and taken 63 sacks). The Bears offense has averaged 14.3 points per game with him at the helm in 2019. New Orleans last saw Trubisky in his rookie year, a game the Bears lost 20-12 in which he completed just 43.7% of his passes and gained 164 yards, ending the game with a Marshon Lattimore interception.
