Despite lack of snaps, Rashaad Penny still ‘big part’ of Seahawks plans

The Seahawks still remain focused on the run game despite having a less-than-successful outing against the Baltimore Ravens. Seattle was only able to log 106 total rushing yards on 26 run plays Week 7.

Notably missing from the action was second-year back, Rashaad Penny, who posted no statistics in his two snaps played last Sunday.

“It was one of those deals where Chris [Carson] was kind of going,” offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer explained Thursday. “He was feeling good. He’s been playing so well lately. C.J. [Prosise] didn’t play much either. I don’t put much on it.”

Carson finished the day with only 65 yards on 21 carries and Prosise managed just 17 yards on his solo touch.

“We know we need Rashaad,” Schottenheimer continued. “We’re excited about Rashaad. I don’t put too much into it other than the fact that we only got 26 or something rushing attempts. He played a few plays. He’s a big part of our plans.”

Penny, recently battling a hamstring injury, has appeared in just four games for the Seahawks this year, totaling 22 carries for 98 yards and a touchdown.

He hasn’t popped up on the injury report Week 8, so he could very well get a shot Sunday in Atlanta . . . if he truly remains a part of Seattle’s game plan.
