Despite Doug Baldwin’s injury, Seahawks not desperate at wide receiver

Now that the first few weeks of free agency are in the books and the NFL draft is less than a month away, teams around the league are taking a look at some of their biggest needs heading into the 2019 season.

While most of Seattle’s holes appear to be on the defensive side of the ball, the passing game could be in question now that wide receiver Doug Baldwin is in line for his third offseason surgery of the year.

Baldwin is expected to undergo a sports hernia operation this April and his timeline for return remains uncertain. But Seahawks general manager John Schneider isn’t convinced wide receiver is a critical position that needs to be addressed just yet.

“To a point, yeah, yeah, to a point, but not drastic, not any different than we would any other year,” Schneider explained during his 710 ESPN Seattle interview on Monday. “It’s a solid, solid draft class. There’s some good unrestricted receivers still out there; we messed around with Jordy (Nelson) a little bit, had him in for a great visit and he just decided to retire back to Kansas.”

Schneider will also be looking to the existing roster of players with the hopes of continuing the rebuilding from within.

“There’s some young guys in that group, we have (Malik) Turner in there, we’re getting Amara (Darboh) back from his chest injury, he’s been working his tail off.”

The wide receiver outlook should become more clear following Baldwin’s upcoming surgery.
