Despite confusion, Chandigarh aims for 100% vaccine coverage

CHANDIGARH: With an average vaccination of more than 9 lakh a day, the UT health department is about to achieve its target of another one lakh beneficiaries for 100% coverage on August 15. The UT adviser has again written a letter to the Government of India regarding the discrepancy to be corrected in Chandigarh's population.

“The UT adviser has again written for the clarification of the population count in the city to the GOI. The same shall be brought up in a video conference meet with the union ministry of health and family welfare soon,” said UT director, health services (DHS), Dr Amandeep Kang. She added, “We have got 30,000 doses today. Last month, we got 2.19 lakh when the allocation was for 1.5 lakh. If the vaccination programme is streamlined, there is less wastage etc, then we get the stock on time and according to our requirements. We will get more the coming week.”

Almost two weeks are left for the city to cover all its eligible beneficiaries with the first shot of the vaccine. So far, 94% of eligible beneficiaries have been given the first jab and around 56,000 persons are left. Also, 1.87 lakh people or 12% of the eligible population has been fully immunised.

The UT health department has also been conducting evening sessions for vaccination for those who have work in the morning. Till date, 8,44,191 doses have been used while 96.8% health care workers and161.9% frontline workers have been immunised.
