'Despicable' thieves are stealing flowers and floral tributes from graves in Salford

Grieving families in Salford have reported that flowers and floral tributes laid for their loved ones during recent funerals are being stolen.

Salford City Council has has warned mourners who have recently laid their loved ones to rest at to be on guard.

The flowers were taken from the side of Agecroft crematorium and from the graves at Agecroft cemetery.

Officials from Salford City Council are reviewing CCTV footage which covers the cemeteries and have informed Greater Manchester police.

Councillor David Lancaster, lead member for environment and community safety, said the council are taking the concerns very seriously.

"To steal flowers left after a funeral is despicable and shows a complete lack of thought for the grieving family at a very difficult time." Said Cllr Lancaster.

"We have alerted the police and made all our cemeteries staff aware of the allegation so they can be extra vigilant."

"If anyone has any information about this which could help with a prosecution, then please come forward and let us know or report it anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555111."

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "We have been made aware and enquiries are ongoing."
