Desperately ill dog helps raise £1,500 for Dumfries and Galloway Canine Rescue Centre

A desperately ill dog helped raise £1,500 for Dumfries and Galloway Canine Rescue Centre.

Jack Russell Terrier Jake arrived at the Glencaple facility with a football-sized tumour on his neck.

Staff at the Dovecotewell site shared his story as part of a fundraising campaign to pay for vet bills.

And they were delighted with the response from generous dog-lovers.

Jon Foot, the assistant manager at the centre, said: “When Jake came in to us we got him straight to the vets and they confirmed it was a cancerous tumour.

“We had it removed at the end of April and he has had a slow but good recovery since then as he’s an old boy. “

Jake’s story was used by the centre to highlight examples of what it has to deal with on a regular basis. And the Facebook fundraiser received £1,500 which will go towards paying vets bills throughout the year and help other dogs in a similar position to Jake.

Jon added: “We can’t thank people who donated enough. We often get dogs coming to us in a bad way and need serious operations and vet costs. We also get a lot of dogs that need spaying and neutering.

“Our annual vet bill can be around £20,000. So things like this help in a big way.”
