Desperate single man hires billboard in Manchester in the hope of getting a date... he says 'not many people swipe right on Tinder'

A desperate singleton has hired a billboard in Manchester in the hope of getting a date.

The advert, by Mark Rofe, encourages interested women to visit his website.

"Single? Date Mark. This could be the sign you've been waiting for," it reads.

The advert, on Fairfield Street in Manchester, features a photo of Mark smiling in his shades.

Mark describes himself as 'extremely handsome and modest' in a biography on the site.

In a 'facts and stats' section, he states he has kissed 'over three girls' and has two friends.

The website features glowing 'testimonials'.

One, by a 'friend', reads: "This is the most desperate thing I've ever seen.

"Please don't include my name in the testimonial."

Another says: "This is a silly idea, and it’s never going to work.”

The 30-year-old, who works in marketing, paid £425 for the billboard.

His last date was in September.

"I have not been on any dates for a while," Mark said.

"Not many people swipe right on Tinder. I've been struggling to find a match.

"All of my friends are married or in long term relationships. I thought 'what could I do to stand out?' If everyone is online, maybe I could take things offline."

Mark lives in Sheffield, but decided to rent out the billboard in Manchester because of the 'high footfall'.

So far, he's had 63 applications (as of 5pm Friday, January 31).

Some of those are real, but some of those are friends who wanted to make him feel better.

Reactions to his stunt range from people thinking he is 'mental' to others saying he has guts.

He hasn't had time to sift through the applications yet as he's been at work, but will take a proper look soon.

Mark, who loves football, doesn't have a particular type - he says he's more interested in personality.

He would like to date someone with a sense of humour, who is fun and smart.

He wouldn't describe himself as an old romantic, but said he is 'thoughtful'.

Mark's perfect first date would be dinner and drinks, but he's open to suggestions.
