Desperate search for missing Gateshead mum Sorrelle Bamford continues

The family of a Gateshead mum are continuing their desperate search for her more than 24 hours after she went missing.

Concerns are growing for Sorrelle Bamford, 38, who was reported missing just before 10am on Tuesday. She was last seen at an address on Chesters Gardens, in Crawcrook .

Northumbria Police say they are treating her as a "high risk missing person" and have made a public appeal to help find her.

Her family were also out looking for her into the early hours of Wednesday, before resuming their search in the morning.

Her son Aaron, 19, said: "We were out all day on Tuesday and came back for a change of clothes in the evening. We then went back out again and kept looking for her until 4am in the morning.

"It's been more than 24 hours since mum has been missing. We are all very worried but all we want to do is keep trying."

He said their appeal had been shared thousands of times on social media and they were grateful for the support they were receiving.

They have had possible sightings of Sorrelle - one was a report of her at the Town Moor, in Newcastle, and the other at Wylam train station.

Aaron added: "We are printing off lots of posters and we will be handing them out around the Town Moor, Wylam station and the routes leading to them.

"It's starting to hit us quite hard now, as it's been 24 hours since she has been missing.

"At the moment, our whole focus is on finding her."

Police say inquiries to trace the mother-of-four have been ongoing. The officer leading the search has appealed to her directly and asked her to contact police and let her family know she is okay.

Supt Brad Howe, of Northumbria Police, said: "The search for Sorrelle has been going on now for more than 24 hours and we are treating her as a high risk missing person as we are very concerned for her welfare.

"Sorrelle's family are understandably distraught by her disappearance and just want her to contact them or police so that they know she is okay.

"I would appeal for anyone who has seen Sorrelle, or anyone matching her description, to get in touch with officers at the earliest opportunity.

"I would also appeal to Sorrelle directly to contact police or come and speak to us at a nearby police station. We just want to make sure you are okay and we can help provide you with any support you need."

Sorrelle is described as white, of medium build, about 5ft 6in tall and with shoulder length, blonde hair.

She is believed to be wearing black jeans, a peach vest, a thin black jacket and peach coloured sandals with a jewel design. She may also be carrying a black Michael Kors handbag.
