Desperate plea to save Celtic pub facing closure as fundraiser launched

A Celtic pub has launched a desperate appeal to save it from closure.

Hoops Bar in the Gallowgate say they're on the brink of going out of business, with a fundraising page set up hoping to raise £35,000.

The boozer is facing eviction from their Glasgow premises as staff members ask punters to donate online.

The bar said on their Crowdfunder page they have "suffered extreme financial hardship due to the pandemic".

Fellow supporters are asked to be "part of the community" and bring the business back from the brink.

The fundraiser has already raised over £3000.

In a rallying cry, the pub added: "Please donate what you can, and if you can’t donate please share the link and video far and wide.

"We may have lost the league, but with your help we won’t lose the Hoops, and we will be back to watch the league flag fly over Celtic Park again."

Hoops Bar was first opened in 1987 and has proved popular amongst Celtic fans over the years, particularly on matchdays.

Its iconic paintings of Parkhead heroes dress the interior walls. However, its doors have remained closed through the majority of the coronavirus crisis.

Pub landlord Neil O'Donnell said in his appeal video: "I don't feel we should lose this pub" before adding he hopes he can welcome customers back soon.
