Gaming fans desperate to get their hands on the new PlayStation 5 has been bidding hundreds more than the list price on auction sites.
The console, which first released in the United States and several other countries last week, has so far received positive reviews from critics.
Bought new, the flagship version of the console which features an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive and is priced at £449, while Sony is releasing a slimmer, digital-only version of the console which costs £349.
Demand for the new console saw several high-profile websites crash.
Other people queued in person despite the fact Sony confirmed that the console wasn't available to pick up in store.
Worse, many eager fans who pre-ordered the PS5 won’t get their consoles today - after several deliveries were delayed by GAME.
Some Amazon customers have also reported delays on their PS5 orders.
One Amazon customer sent Mirror Online a screenshot of his delivery notes, having received an update at 07:29 this morning that his delivery had been delayed 'due to external factors.'
And all that has led customers lucky enough to actually get their hands on one able to cash in.
Listings for the new console started appearing on eBay early this morning - with people seemingly happy to fork out as much as double the recommended retail price.
The vast majority of listings were sold between £700 and £800, despite the disc edition costing £449.99 and the digital edition at £349.99.
However, some bids pushed beyond the £1,000 mark.
The PS5 is several times more powerful than the current generation PlayStation 4 and is able to handle higher-quality graphics with significantly shorter loading times.
Jim Ryan, president and chief executive of SIE, said the new system had "limitless possibilities".
The console includes a new ultra-high-speed solid state (SSD) drive as well as the ability to run games in 4K resolution at up to 120 frames per second (fps).
The DualSense controller, which comes with the console, has also been given a major update and now features enhanced haptic feedback to more accurately recreate in-game vibrations through the handset.
Its launch also comes in the wake of rivals Microsoft releasing their own next-generation consoles - the Xbox Series X and Series S - making it a landmark month for the video games industry.
