'Desperate for change' - Steve Harmison spoke for all Newcastle fans when discussing Mike Ashley

It is now 10 days on since the latest Newcastle United takeover links broke in the press and the club is still well and truly under the ownership of Mike Ashley.

Despite talk of a Saudi takeover, a deal has not been agreed as of yet and uncertainty persists about the future of the club.

Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is trying to buy the club for £340million and Ashley is is said to be mulling over what has been described as a 'serious approach'.

The Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, alongside billionaire British brothers David and Simon Reuben, are part of a consortium in talks with the Newcastle owner over a takeover deal which is being brokered by Amanda Staveley.

Newcastle fans have been here before on numerous occasions, though, and there remains scepticism about Ashley's willingness to sell after failed takeover bids in recent years.

And in an impassioned plea on TalkSPORT, former England cricketer - and huge Newcastle fan - Steve Harmison used the national radio platform to detail why Newcastle fans are 'desperate for change'.

"There is a lot of negativity around Newcastle United and it is around one thing and about one man. It's about the takeover and Mike Ashley," he told Alan Brazil's Sports Breakfast.

"It breaks my heart sometimes with the Newcastle fans because they are arguing with each other and it is about Mike Ashley.

"They are not arguing about Steve Bruce or the way they play. They are falling out about the state the club is in.

Harmison - After the Chelsea game I couldn’t believe it. I had a lump in my throat - talkSPORT

"Actually the club are 12th in the Premier League with 31 points and no debt. But they have had it for 12 years and they are desperate for a takeover and are desperate for change.

"Steve Bruce doesn't really stand a chance. They sang Rafa's name for years and is the football any better? I would say it isn't much different.

"What is different is Newcastle have invested £80million on a front three. It is not so much that the front three aren't firing, they aren't playing high enough up the pitch to give the front three a chance."
