Desperate Edinburgh restaurant pleads with customers after 14 weekend no shows

A Leith eatery has taken to Instagram in order to express their frustration at the amount of no shows that have impacted their business as restrictions were lifted.

Bundits of Leith are no strangers to no shows with the Bao bun specialists scouring their social media to find a historic meme that dealt with this exact issue but from 2016.

The bar said that they had nine tables, including one of seven guests, not show up on Friday September 3.

And matters were made worse on the following Saturday when a further five tables did not show up for their booking.

It has been no secret to those who like to dine out in Edinburgh that businesses have struggled over the last 18 months or so due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The statement released by Bundits strikes an understanding tone with any potential clientele but asks that if they are unavailable to contact the Bao bar to let them know that they will be unable to make it.

They said: “We are not into businesses crying wolf on social media, for real. But this has recently been such a big deal for us, that we took it upon ourselves to travel all the way back to 2016 to bring this meme back, and that’s a long way!

“Now look, we get that things happen, plans change, especially now when times are so uncertain and circumstances change fast.

“But this being said, a lot of the time there is an opportunity to let us know that the guest won’t be coming and yet it doesn’t happen.

“We had nine (!) tables (including one of 7 guests) not turn up on Friday and 5 tables not turn up last night. It’s a huge huge loss for us.

“We can’t always answer the phone during service, and we understand it’s annoying, but please do leave a message, drop us a DM, or preferably manage your booking online (you can cancel or amend your reservation via ResDiary) if you’d like to cancel. It means to us just as much as you picking Bundits as your venue of choice in the first place. We will always understand and always thank you for the heads up.

“And if you can’t cancel your reservation, because life happened and it simply is not a priority, it’s not you we are talking about. We really get it, and we understand these circumstances. In these cases, don’t sweat it.”

Bundits specialise in “cloud-like” Bao buns and thirst quenching beverages and can be found at 48-52 Constitution St, Leith, Edinburgh EH6 6RS.
